It is The One Teaching Its Child

A cow calf takes grass that belongs to Nashruddin and takes it away. After seeing this event Nashruddin is angry and hurriedly sees the mother of the calf, and then he beats it up with a stick. Seeing Nashruddin beating a cow up, a neighbor asks him, "Hei Nashruddin, why are you beating it up? Is it guilty?" Nashruddin replies, "Yes, it is guilty for it is the one teaching the calf to do that."

The Honorable Judge Has the Obligation to clean it

A dog defecated on the street right in the middle of two houses, so the owners of the houses have an argument to decide who should clean that mess. Because none of them wants to give up, so they go to a judge to resolve the dispute and Nashruddin happens to be there. After both persons tell the problem, the judge asks Nashruddin jokingly, "Hei Nashruddin, can you resolve this problem?" Nashruddin looks at the two persons and says firmly, "Because the excrement falls in the public road, so no one is obligated to clean that mess, in my opinion, the one obligated to clean it is the honorable judge."

An Argument Occurs Between Me and Him

A judge in the city where Nashruddin lives dies, and there is an argument between them. In the funeral, people ask Nashruddin to read the talqin (teaching the deceased to answer the questions from the angels of grave when they asked about God, Prophet, The holy book and many others), so Nashruddin says to them, "I don't want to do it, go find someone else, for he will not listen to my words. Don't you know that there has been an argument between me and him?"

Bersembunyi

Suatu malam seorang pencuri memasuki rumah Nasrudin. Kabetulan Nasrudin melihatnya. Karena ia sedang sendirian saja, Nasrudin cepat-cepat bersembunyi di dalam peti. Sementara itu pencuri memulai aksi menggerayangi rumah.

Sekian lama kemudian, pencuri belum menemukan sesuatu yang berharga. Hingga akhirnya ia membuka peti besar, dan memergoki Nasrudin yang bersembunyi. "Aha!" kata si pencuri, "Apa yang sedang kau lakukan di sini?"

"Aku malu, karena aku tidak memiliki apa-apa yang bisa kau ambil. Itulah sebabnya aku bersembunyi di sini."

The Bird's clothes are Dirtier than Ours

Nashruddin and his wife go to lake to do the laundry. After arriving and placing the laundry equipments, suddenly comes a crow that sits on top of the clothes, the bird then flies away taking the soap. After seeing that, Nashruddin's wife screams and says, "Look, the crow stole our soap!" Calmly and mildly Nashruddin replies, "Why should we worry? The clothes of that crow are dirtier than ours. Certainly it needs the soap more than we do."

Repaying the Good Deeds of the Frog

Nashruddin comes home from someplace riding his donkey and finds a lake. Suddenly the donkey is thirsty, so Nashruddin tries to approach the lake to give the donkey a drink. Because the place stepped by the donkey is watery and slippery, both Nashruddin's hands and feet slip. Nahsruddin and the donkey almost fall to the water. In that condition there are noises of several frogs. Instantly the donkey backs up and runs in panic, so Nashruddin and the donkey are safe. Nashruddin feels very happy and an idea crosses his mind to repay the help of the frogs. Nashruddin immediately reaches his hands to his pockets and takes several rupiah, and then he tosses the coins to the lake while saying, "The money is yours, go buy some nice food and feast."

The Donkey Won't Go Home

One of Nashruddin's neighbors asks for his donkey that is borrowed by Nashruddin a while ago. Then he says to Nashruddin, "I talk to the donkey first, and I will ask whether or not it wants to go home." He enters to the stable, and a moment later he comes out to see the man and says, "Hei friend, I have spoken to it, but the donkey does not want to go home. It fears that you will beat it up and certainly it will ridicule you, for it does not like you anymore."

Invited for Dinner Party

Nashruddin is invited for a dinner party by one of his friends, and then he goes there without paying attention to his mangy and ugly clothes he is wearing. Because the clothes look so dirty and untidy, no one greets nor notices Nashruddin. He immediately walks out and goes home to switch his dirty and untidy clothes with the best and the most luxurious he has. He returns back to the place. Seeing Nashruddin who comes with such a dazzling and charming appearance, they instantly greet him full with honor, and they then seat him in the front and give them the best food. Not too long after that Nashruddin takes off his nice clothes and says to him, "Eat, dear the one who has the honor and luxury." Seeing this strange action from Nashruddin, people around him ask, "Hei Nashruddin, what are you doing with your clothes?" He replies, "My clothes know better than you do and they have bigger rights to receive honor and food than me."

I Thought You Were Me

One day Nashruddin meets with a man that he's never known before. Strangely, Nashruddin talks with that person, as if they were best friends for a long time. When the man is about to leave, Nashruddin asks him, "I am sorry sir, I have not known you, who are you really?" The man replies, "Is that so, then why do you talk so friendly as if we were long time friends?" Nashruddin replies, "I am sorry I am watching your clothes, trousers, and hat, they are truly identical with mine, so I thought you were me."

The Duck Meat or the Broth?

One day Nashruddin sees a duck on a lake side, and then he tries to catch it but is unsuccessful for the duck runs very fast. Coincidently, that time Nashruddin brings a piece of bread that he dips in the lake water before he chews it. Suddenly one of Nashruddin's friends passes by and says, "Hei Nashruddin, that seems delicious, what are you eating?" Nashruddin then replies, "Duck Soup, if I cannot get the duck, so it is enough just with the broth."

Since When Kettle can Live and Die?

Nashruddin borrows a kettle from one of his neighbors. After several days he returns it to the owner, with a small pot inside it. The neighbor is confused to see this and asking Nashruddin, he then explains that the kettle has given a birth (reproduced). The neighbor believes, and then takes that kettle and leaves. After a few days Nashruddin comes again to that person's house to borrow the same kettle, but this time it takes a very long time for Nashruddin to return it. The kettle owner comes to see Nashruddin to return it, so Nashruddin says, "Oh, too bad that your kettle has died." The kettle owner is very confused, and with a stutter he asks, "Since when the kettle can live and die?" Nashruddin replies, "Why do you believe that the kettle can give birth while you don't believe that it can die?"

Haven't I moved here?

One night a thief breaks into the house of Nashruddin and steals al his belongings, while he just observes the thieves movements from his bed. After the thief is out of the house, Nashruddin swiftly gets up of his bed and goes o follow the trail of the thief's house. Then Nashruddin enters and the thief looks to him and says, "Hei old man, what are you doing here?" He replies, "Haven't I moved here?"

Falling to the River and Flowing

One day Nashruddin cleanses with wudhu on a river side. After finishing the wudhu and when he is about to wear his shoes, suddenly one of his shoes falls to the river and flows away with the river current. In an instance Nashruddin turns his body to face the river and angrily he says, "Hei River, take back this wudhu water and give me back my shoe."

Bury Me in the Old Cemetery

One time Nashruddin makes a will to his family, "Dear family, when I die I want to be buried in the old cemetery." Then the family asks, "Why is it?" Nashruddin replies, "For when the angels Munkar and Nakir come to ask me questions, I can reply, "Hei angels, I have been staying here for a long time, I was asked by you a while ago." Seeing the condition of my grave, they must agree with my words and they will soon leave. This is the best way to save myself from the difficulties of grave questions from the angels."

The Cow Knows Its Mistakes

A cow wanders to Nashruddin's field and destroys his crops, and then he takes a staff and chases it, but the cow gets away. A week later Nashruddin sees the cow pulling a cart that belongs to one of the farmers. Without thinking twice he immediately approaches and beats the cow with a staff that he carries. The cow owner is confused with Nashruddin's actions towards his cow. He is so confused and asks to him, "Hei Nashruddin, why do you beat my cow up, what are its mistakes?" Nashruddin replies, "Hei fool, do not interfere with matters that you don't understand, the cow knows its mistakes."

I am not a Merchant of Days and Months

Someone asks Nashruddin, "Hei Nashruddin, what day is it and what month is it?" Then Nashruddin replies, "Sorry, I don't know because I am not a merchant that sells days and months."

I am a Businessman

One time it crosses Nashruddin's mind to do business, then he buys eggs in large quantities and sells them with a price lower than the price he spends purchasing them. Seeing what is done by Nashruddin, his friends are confused and ridiculing him by saying, "What kind of trade is that, the business does not give you any profit?" Then Nashruddin replies, "I am not looking for profit, but I want to be known by people as a businessman."

Where is the old Moon?

Nashruddin is asked by some of his friends, "Hei Nashruddin, if we see a new moon, where is the old moon?" Nashruddin replies, "They cut it and turn it into new stars."

Ninety thousand Bill

One night Nashruddin dreams of getting a ninety-thousand bill from his friend, as a payment that he asks, then the two argue and dispute regarding this matter. In the middle of the argument, Nashruddin wakes up without any money in his hand. He is upset and blames to himself, then he immediately lays his body back in his bed and pulls a blanket to cover his head while imagining his adversary. Then he extends his arm and says, "Alright then, just give me the ninety thousand to me."
