Rasulullah (sallal alaho alahie wasallam) said, "Always be kind to your neighbors, no matter how they treat you. If you have bad neighbors and find it hard to live near them, then try to leave the neighborhood instead of doing them evil."
Once, a Sahabi went to Rasulullah (sallal alaho alahie wasallam) and said, "0 Prophet of Allah, my neighbor is very troublesome. He has made it impossible for me to live there in peace." Rasulullah (sallal alaho alahie wasallam) said, "Have patience." The Sahabi (radi alaho anho) waited for a few days, but his troubles continued. He went back to Rasulullah (sallal alaho alahie wasallam) and said, "I have been patient, but my neighbor has continued to bother me. What should I do, 0 Prophet of Allah?"
Rasulullah (sallal alaho alahie wasallam) told him, "Pretend that you are going to leave the neighborhood because of him." The Sahabi (radi alaho anho) did as he was told.
People asked, "Why are you leaving this house?" He said, "I have to leave because of my troublesome neighbor. I have been patient, but to no avail. I do not want to harm him, so I must leave now."
Upon hearing this, people went to the Sahabi's neighbor and asked him, "Why are you so mean to your neighbor?"
He felt embarrassed by both the criticism of the people as well as the patience of the Sahabi (radi alaho anho) who was being forced to leave. He went to the Sahabi (radi alaho anho) and apologized saying, "In the future, I will be kind and good to you. Please stay in your home."
The Sahabi (radi alaho anho) did not have any more problems with his neighbor.
